Start your Farsi courseWhy Farsi
Farsi (Persian) is the language of Iran, widely spoken in Afghanistan (as Dari) and Tajikistan (as Tajik). It's the language of Rumi, Hafez, and Ferdowsi -- poets whose work is woven into daily conversation in a way that has no parallel in English.
Despite using the Arabic script, Farsi is an Indo-European language -- meaning its grammar is structurally closer to English than to Arabic. This makes it more approachable than many learners expect, once you get past the script.
What makes Farsi challenging — and how Maia helps
Modified Arabic script
Farsi uses the Arabic alphabet plus four additional letters. Vowels are mostly unwritten. Maia builds script fluency systematically with exercises designed for the Farsi-specific letter set.
Formal vs. colloquial registers
Written Farsi and spoken Farsi diverge considerably. Maia teaches colloquial Tehran Persian alongside formal structures so you can both read and converse naturally.
The ezafe construction
Farsi links nouns and adjectives with an unwritten vowel called the ezafe. It's invisible in text and essential in speech. Maia drills this pattern in context until it becomes instinctive.
