Five tones
Thai has five tones (mid, low, falling, high, rising). Tone is determined by a combination of consonant class, vowel length, and tone marks. Maia teaches the tone rules through pattern practice, not rote memorization.

Thai uses classifier words when counting or specifying nouns -- different classifiers for flat things, round things, animals, people. Maia teaches the common classifiers in context.
