Why Thai

Thai is the official language of Thailand, spoken by over 60 million people. Whether you're drawn to Thai culture, planning extended travel, or connecting with Thai-speaking family, learning Thai opens a world that English-language tourism barely touches.

Thai's writing system looks daunting, but it's systematic -- once you learn the rules, you can read any word. The tonal system (five tones) is the real mountain, but with structured practice, it's very climbable.

What makes Thai challenging — and how Maia helps

The Thai script

Thai has 44 consonants and 15 vowel symbols that combine in complex ways. Maia introduces consonant classes systematically, since they determine tone rules -- learning to read and learning tones happen together.

Five tones

Thai has five tones (mid, low, falling, high, rising). Tone is determined by a combination of consonant class, vowel length, and tone marks. Maia teaches the tone rules through pattern practice, not rote memorization.

Classifiers

Thai uses classifier words when counting or specifying nouns -- different classifiers for flat things, round things, animals, people. Maia teaches the common classifiers in context.
